ASLA Foundation Project

The ASLA Foundation partnered with the Department of Social Infrastructure to offer work experience opportunities for 25 young men and women participating in the Departments Construction programme in which they acquire the necessary skills to become entrepreneurs as home-owner-builders. The programme included a six-month theory training and another six months onsite training in various construction trades inclusive of building, plastering, plumbing, electrical works, carpentry works, painting etc. The ASLA Foundation has partnered with ASLA Construction at its Swellendam site, where the programme participants are placed for period of (how long) during which they work alongside seasoned construction professionals.

All stakeholders (community and students) are benefiting from the essential training, that has seen a number of new jobs created. The work experience placements could also have the potential to be a path to permanent employment
