Social Infrastructure The Cape Agulhas Safe Haven

Social Infrastructure: The Cape Agulhas Safe Haven Extension

The extension to the existing safe haven in Bredasdorp (originally built by ASLA in 2015) includes a 12-sleeper dormitory, two bathrooms, an office, and a counselling room. The facility was fully furnished, and the stoep area enclosed to allow for more privacy for the temporary residents. The kitchen has doubled in size and been vfitted and furnished to catering standards.
The extension means that the haven has more capacity to provide and counselling to the many victims of abuse. The larger kitchen also enables the haven to prepare meals for the local community.

Social Infrastructure: Rosevalley Library

The Foundation contributed to a multimillion-rand infrastructure project mainly funded by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sport of the Western Cape. The opening ceremony was held 26 July 2022.
The Library and Information Centre will play a pivotal role in the enhancement of the community’s literacy, skill, and knowledge.

Social Infrastructure and Training: Matjiesrivier Primary School

A joint initiative between ASLA Foundation and Mainstream SA, Perdekraal East (PTY) LTD saw the addition of a new admin block, storeroom, kitchen and ablution facilities. Furthermore teachers and building personnel were trained and certificated in First Aid and Firefighting. The official opening took place on 22 March 2022.
All stakeholders (community and teachers) will benefit from the essential infrastructure.

Mandela Day Initiative: Welgemoed Primary School

In a joint initiative between ASLA Foundation and Mainstream SA, Perdekraal East (PTY) LTD encompassed painting the inside of the classrooms and varnishing the wooden floors. Furthermore, new sports equipment was handed over on the day.
In addition to creating a more conducive learning environment, this initiative opened a new world for the beneficiaries who had never had the opportunity to play football, netball, and table tennis at their school.

Impact

Since inception the Foundation’s activities have directly impacted 201 black females, 272 black youth, 47 black unemployed, 169 black people living in rural areas, and 17 black disabled individuals.
